This is one of the oldest areas, starting development in the 1860’s. It is the original place for two years known as “Downtown Brooklyn”, before it became part of Oakland. Much of it is still there, and you can see the 1860 Victorians all way to the 1900 area that are over a 100 years old. However other areas have been torn down and rebuilt with much higher density, so you end up with a total mix of old and new together.
